Shake Out
- On
October 15, 2009 our school will
participate in the
California
ShakeOut, the largest earthquake
drill in the country. As a participant in the
ShakeOut, we will be holding a school-wide
earthquake drill. At 10 a.m., your child will
be instructed to take cover under a table or
desk, and hold on, along with millions of
Californians. The ShakeOut is to prepare for
an earthquake that may occur in our area. This
is the chance for us all to practice what
actions to take to ensure we are safe when it
happens.
Earthquake preparedness is a
responsibility of all Californians and we
encourage you to discuss earthquake readiness
with your child and others at home, to take
steps to get prepared, and to participate in
the ShakeOut. Here are some suggestions:
Prepare for
earthquakes:
-
Do a “hazard
hunt” for items that might fall during
earthquakes and secure them.
-
Create a
personal or
family disaster preparedness plan.
-
Organize or
refresh your emergency supply kits. Be sure to
store at least one gallon of water per person,
per day, for at least 3 days and ideally for 2
weeks.
-
Identify and
correct any issues in your home’s structure.
-
Enroll in a
local Community Emergency Response team
(CERT) training to learn more about how to
take care of yourself and your family when you
are “on your own” after a disaster.
-
Practice what
you will do after the shaking stops.
-
Update your
child’s emergency card to include friends and
neighbors in case you are not able to make it
to school after an earthquake. Remember that
we can only release children to those listed
on their emergency card.
Carnival
– This Sunday, October 18th 11:00
to 4:00 right here at school. Each classroom
will have a booth, and there will be games,
prizes, and food. Lots
of fun for the whole family!
Recess Policy – We try to have the
students go outside for recess every day even
if it is sprinkling. So please on rainy days,
send your student to school with a rain jacket
and make sure their name is in the jacket.
Friday, October 30th 2009 –
School Hours
All
Kindergarten 8:20 to 11:40
Grades1 & 2 – 8:40 to 1:55
Grades 3, 4, 5 – 8:40 to 1:53
Halloween
Parade will be at 10:00 – The parade will
start by the
flag pole and will proceed up Blue Fox
Way, turn right on Davona Drive, right on May
Way, and turn into the park entrance at the
back of the school.
Halloween Costumes – Please
remember that Halloween costumes must be
appropriate for the elementary school
setting. No weapons or pretend weapons are
ever allowed on school grounds. Dress
code still applies. Remember we have
kindergarteners, so we discourage costumes
that are too scary or gory. Please use your
best judgment and call the office if you have
questions.

- Our 11th annual Country Club
Affair, "Puttin'
on the Ritz", will be held
March 20, 2010 at Castlewood
Country Club. We would like to invite you
to attend a fabulous dinner and auction to
raise money and show support for our school.
We have a great committee again this year and
everyone is working hard to make this another
successful Country Club Affair. Our committee
meetings are open to anyone who would like to
help plan this event. We can always use new
ideas! We are also looking for sponsors to
help support the Country Club Affair. If your
company would like an opportunity to advertise
to our local community, there are many
sponsorship levels you can choose from. If you
would like to help, are interested in being a
sponsor, or have any questions, please contact
Amy Sarokin at asarokin@comcast.net.
We're looking forward to seeing our Cougar
families and friends on March 20th at
Castlewood.
Box Tops For
Education
- Country Club PTA will be sending in our
first batch of Box Tops for this
year on October 21. Please send any Box Tops
you have collected to school so they can be
packaged for shipping. Turn in your Box
Tops to your teacher, the school office, or
the collection box near the entrance of the
MPR. Please do not include expired Box Tops
as they will not be accepted by General
Mills. We will continue collecting and
mailing in Box Tops year-round, so keep
clipping and sending your Box Tops to school
after October 21! Volunteer Opportunity: If
you would like to help prepare Box Tops for
shipping, please contact Julie Eseltine,
828-7144,
j_eseltine@yahoo.com.
