Site Council

The Site Council is a group of elected parents and staff members who develop and approve the Single Plan for Student Achievement , which is a comprehensive plan for the school that addresses strategies for all students to meet academic standards and the safety needs of all students. The Site Council monitors the resources to implement the plan, continuously reviews its implementation, and assesses its effectiveness by reviewing student data. The academic portion of the plan focuses on the school's efforts to provide instructional support and intervention for students who are working below standard in reading and/or math and on the needs of the English language learner (ELL) and gifted and talented (GATE) students.

Country Club’s Intervention Program

The goal of every classroom teacher is to help each learner achieve to his/her full potential.  The Country Club Intervention program provides support and resources designed to help our teachers address the wide range of learners' needs, particularly students who are not meeting standards.

Now in its third year, our intervention program helps teachers help the kids by:

ü      assisting with classroom observations and special assessments

ü      providing specialized learning materials to help individualize classroom instruction

ü      matching students with volunteer “Learning Pals” who provide small-group or one-on-one assistance

ü      matching students with Volunteer Reading Tutors  who are trained to provide structured, research-based literacy

      remediation

ü      providing workshops and study sessions for students who need extra work on foundational skills or class assignments.

Learning Pals:

Learning Pals are paired with individual students or small groups within a particular classroom to give struggling students an extra boost on class work. Learning Pals can help with everything from practicing math facts, to reviewing missed test items, to putting the finishing polish on projects and compositions. The intervention specialist and classroom teacher will make sure you have all the support you need to make a big difference in as little as 30 minutes a week.

Volunteer reading tutors:

We use the Barton Reading & Spelling System, which is a highly structured reading program designed for volunteer tutors to use with students one-on-one.   We began this program in 2005-06 and have seen great improvement in the students who have participated.  To continue and expand the program we need mores tutors!  Tutors do not need teaching backgrounds.  The only necessary qualification is a willingness to commit 45 minutes/day 2 times a week.  We will train you, match you with a student, and continue to support you!  And you will have the joy of giving a child the gift of reading!
